What to expect in Studio & Online classes post Covid 19 Pandemic

At this time of great change in how we live and uncertainty as to when and how things might return to normality, HD Pilates Cornwall would like to encourage you to continue exercising in whatever form you enjoy. Evidence says that exercise improves our circulation and immune system whilst also releasing endorphins which create a feeling of joy, and wellbeing. There are several websites which discuss this but we thought we'd point you to the NHS as your first point of call: NHS Exercise.  Lastly, several of our clients who have had Covid 19 reported back that all the lateral breathing we do in class really helped them through the worst part.

IN PERSON classes

We realise that Government guidance has changed and we are allowed to continue more as normal, however a lot of our clients have reported feeling safer with the restricted numbers and keeping ventilation at optimum levels so we will be continuing with these measures.

To ensure the safety of all our clients, all HD Pilates Cornwall in person classes will comply with current Government and Governing body stipulations as well as the venues  Health & Safety measures.  Please take time to familiarise yourself with all our Health & Safety in class stipulations  prior to booking as detailed on the booking site, as Booking a place on a course of classes will be taken as an agreement to comply.

If the UK, Cornwall, the Studio or Class have to Lock Down or we are required to close, all classes will continue on line.

IMPORTANT: We realise it is no longer a government law to isolate if you test positive for Covid, however some of our clients are physically vulnerable due to health conditions and we request that you do stay away and attend an online class that week instead. We also request that if you are ill, you do not attend, again if feeling physically able you can attend an online class instead. NB there is evidence that if you have covid and return to exercise too quickly you can develop Long Covid. Please look after yourselves, listen to your bodies and only return to exercise when you feel physically able.

What to expect:

  • PRIOR to attending your class, we request that you notify HD Pilates Cornwall of ANY injuries or changes to your health by email.
  • MASKS: If you are still wishing to wear a mask en route to the studio in the MMI, then please do, however NO mask should be worn whilst exercising as there is evidence that says we do not get enough oxygen if wearing a mask during exercise.  Do not worry though, we will be observing strict ventilation and social distancing measures within class. Classes will be restricted to 6 clients in the MMI, windows will be open to varying degrees and no one will be facing each other whilst exercising.
  • EXERCISE CLOTHES: Please wear clothes you can move in easily with nothing attached that will dig into you on lying down. If you can please wear things that are not too baggy so we can see what your body is doing. Do also please wear layers as we will be keeping windows slightly open to maintain ventilation as we exercise.
  • BELONGINGS:
    • MMI: There will be a hook to hang any wet coats on outside the studio and you can bring your bag/bottle of water in and have it near your mat.
    • Please leave shoes at the door and change into clean non slip socks to wear in the studio.
    • GARDEN STUDIO: Once in the studio you can hang your coat on the coat hooks provided and we ask you to take your shoes off and put on non slip socks for your 1:1
  • SHOES/SOCKS: Shoes are to be taken off PRIOR to entering the studio and we request you wear clean non slip socks into the studio instead, so that when walking on the pre-cleaned floors, the socks will stay clean, meaning we do not contaminate our mats when standing on them. If you have forgotten your socks, then please sanitise your feet.
  • MATS:
    • MMI: Please bring your own pre cleaned mat and either a block or book to place your head on.  There will be markers signalling where to place your mat to give you space around you within the class.
    • GARDEN STUDIO: All mats are steam cleaned prior to your attending so no need to bring your own mat
  • OTHER EQUIPMENT: Any other equipment will be provided by the Teacher and will have been cleaned thoroughly prior to your class/1:1.
  • HANDS ON CORRECTIONS: Hands on corrections will be offered and if consented to. If you would prefer not – please let the teacher know at the beginning of class and fear not, you will be given plenty of verbal & visual cues to aid your working in good alignment.
  • At the end of the class, we respectfully request that you do not linger to catch up, as we will need to get ready for the next class. In the MMI there is a cafe downstairs  which is open in the mornings, should you all like to go and catch up.
  • CATCH UPS:  (Classes only) Catch ups can now be taken in other classes as well as the online classes. However catch ups are not guaranteed and cannot be carried over to following terms. There are pre recorded class available if you are unable to attend a class. This is not guaranteed though.

In these strange times, we request that all clients are sensitive to others needs and respect social distance. We do not know who might be vulnerable or living with others that are vulnerable and so it is our aim to make everyone feel as safe as possible by maintaining good ventilation and social distancing within class. We appreciate your help in this :)

ONLINE CLASSES:

A remote class is different from watching an on line recorded class in that the teacher watches you and gives you corrections so that you can use the correct muscles.

We request that any of our clients who are vulnerable attend Online classes for their own saftey.  Our aim is to offer you continuation of the quality you are used to in the safety of your own homes.

To any new clients we offer a warm welcome, although we would ask that you sign up to an initial short online 20 min consultation with us for £10 prior to signing up to a course of classes.

Feedback has been excellent for these classes with even complete technophobes enjoying the chance to exercise whilst being checked to see they are working in alignment. It's been wonderful to see people really progress over this time!!

In order to join our remote 1:1s or classes you will need to:

  • Make sure you have a good WIFI signal. Choose a location in your home where your signal strength is the strongest to maintain a connection. If you have weak signal strength in general, you can easily purchase a WIFI booster/extender from amazon. I went old school and got a cable to connect my laptop to my router.
  • Set up your mat (a blanket, towel, anything you have available to you will work just fine) so you are squared off to your room, not the camera. Similar to how you would be set up in the studio.
  • Set your laptop, tablet or iphone (Laptop cameras will work the best), above you and angled downward so that if you are laying on your mat on the floor, I can see you fully. We can always make adjustments during the session.
  • Make sure the light in the room is in front of you so I can see you! So if it is day time, place the window in front of you (you are facing it) with the camera of the laptop/tablet/phone diagonal to you and above you… Boxes and books are useful props. If the evening, place a lamp in front of you. (If you are back lit I’ll just see your shadow)
  • Shut your screen saver down! On your apple or PC, go to your preferences, and choose your screen saver to go on either every hour or never. For phones and tablets, you would turn it off (might be called auto-lock) in your settings.
  • Pick a spot where you can get as much of a distraction-free workout as possible. We all have partners, kids, and pets - our workouts may get disturbed more than in the studio environment, and we will roll with it. But our focus will be on YOU for the full duration of your workout!
  • Like any in-person session, please let us know at the beginning of your session if you have any injuries, chronic or acute pain you are working with. Take care of your body and ask for modifications if anything doesn’t feel comfortable for you.
  • We will open the remote classroom 15 mins early so you can all catch up with each other too.
  • Each person needs to book in even if in same room/household as each person will be counted as a place in the class.

Classes are booked as courses UNLESS you are working in the NHS, in which case please contact me regarding drop ins.

If you have never attended before and want to try it out, do email me to sort out a 5 min zoom set up chat  where we can go through your zoom set up together :)

We are so excited to be offering this new service to you. Keeping you moving with your Pilates practice and feeling good in your body and mind is of the utmost importance to us, especially in these challenging times.

Lastly, before following the directions on your conformation booking email and joining the class, it is important that you email me a copy of the terms and conditions for remote learning stating that you agree to them.
Once you have booked and paid you will be sent a zoom link which when pressed/copied and pasted will take you to the class. If this is your first time you will be invited to download the zoom app if using a phone or tablet, or zoom software on your Laptop. There will be a new link to each class so it is important to keep your booking conformation email.
